Buying an Avocado

When you are buying it,- if it is bright green in colour then it’s good quality. Sometimes there are dark spots on the fruit, you won’t prefer such but if they are hard then they will continue to ripen. If you want to know that avocado is ripen or not, hold it gently in your palm and press very gently against its surface using thumb. A ripe Avocado will yield to gentle pressure without feeling squeeze.

STORING

Once you have bought avocado, keep them on your counter in a cool dry place. If they are ripe then keep it in a refrigerator. A hard avocado will usually ripen within a few days. Cut Avocado will begin to oxidise so turn brown quickly like apple. To avoid this squeeze lemon juice on it which will help to slow down oxidation. If you want to store the left part of cut avocado you can use above method and refrigerate it in airtight container for a day.

It can be used for making dips, Salads, toasts, Sandwiches and brownies. It tastes good with combination of cocoa in different recipes.

CUTTING

Take an avocado on cutting board or in your palm, cut it lengthwise, when your knife feel the pit, go around the fruit with twisting your knife. Then twist both halves of the fruit and separate lengthwise. One half of the avocado will have the pit. To remove the pit , you can carefully tap the knife into the pit twist and remove. Other way is to use spoon to scoop out the pit.

Then peel the skin or scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Then you can slice, dice or mesh as per your requirement.
